High-level speakers engage in a debate at a joint Hutchinson Ports/IMO/IMO International Maritime Law Institute seminar to address: “Do ports need international regulation?” Imo Secretary-General Kitack Lim reminded the audience that the IMO Convention does give the Organization a mandate to regulate in ports and some current IMO regulations do indeed extend to port operations. To protect vessels from piracy attacks at Douala anchorage, the Government of Cameroon has decided to supply armed guards, free of charge, that will stay onboard vessel for the duration of its stay at the anchorage. IMB Piracy Reporting Centre has recorded three cases of piracy at Douala anchorage so far in 2019. In an effort to enhance the security for ships, the Government has decided to place armed security team onboard. Read more
