Albion Marine Solutions: EEXI (Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index) & Energy Efficiency Solutions

Albion Marine Solutions is actively offering assistance and support to Ship Owners, Operators, and Managers to ensure compliance with the recently introduced Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) Legislation. We are dedicated to investigating available and suitable decarbonization and efficiency technologies and operational changes for their vessels. We aim to provide the best solution for EEXI reduction and return on investment (ROI).

The EEXI measures the energy efficiency and carbon emissions of vessels already in operation with a gross tonnage exceeding 400. the carrier (operational) or ship owner must ensure their assets comply with EEXI regulations by January 1, 2023

EEXI can be applied to: Bulk Carriers, Gas Carriers, Tankers, Container Ships, General Cargo Ships, RO-RO Cargo Ships, RO-RO Passenger Ships, LNG Carriers, Cruise Passenger Ships Non-Conventional Propulsion of 400GT.

All ships mentioned above must adhere to a prescribed Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI). A specified reduction factor determines this index, expressed as a percentage relative to the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) baseline. The achieved EEXI must be equal to or lower than the Required EEXI.

There are many options to meet the Required EEXI; Albion Marine experts will provide you with the best solution based on calculating your ship's current EEXI value. This can be achieved in three phases:

  • EEXI Calculation & Decarbonization High-Level Feasibility Study: This phase involves assessing the current Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) and evaluating potential operational changes and energy-efficient technologies.
  • Selection of Chosen Solutions, Engineering, and Integration: In this phase, solutions are selected, engineering processes are initiated, and integration plans are developed.
  • Engineering Design and Integration: This includes activities such as Vessel Survey & 3D Scanning (if required), Basic Design, Classification Society Approval, Detailed Engineering & Design, and the Integration of chosen systems.
