Scrubbers, although attractive for quick payback time, are not a feasible solution for all vessels to meet Sulphur Cap 2020. Installation of scrubbers is not a ‘One size fits all’ solution as the technical and commercial feasibility of such an installation will directly depend on the operating profile of the vessel. Two sister’s ships, although similar in construction can have two different operating profiles and Scrubbers, being a great decision for one can be a bad investment for another.
